West Ham United have been boosted by the news that Marko Arnautovic is likely to remain at the club, until the the end of the season at least.

According to the Telegraph, Manchester United, who have been a key admirer of Arnautovic, are not set to make a move for the striker in the upcoming January transfer window, and they will assess their situation again next summer.

Romelu Lukaku has had a rather forgettable season so far and the Red Devils are eager to get their attack firing again, even if that means offering Arnautovic a deal at Old Trafford.

The report indicates that a move for the Austrian international will depend on if José Mourinho remains as the United manager next season.

The Portuguese manager appears to prefer the acquisition of a younger striker as Arnautovic, 29, is likely to command an extortionate fee in relation to his limited time left at the peak of his powers.

The likes of Chelsea could plot a sensational move for someone like Arnautovic if Alvaro Morata’s inconsistency continues.

The Blues have been linked with Arnautovic in recent times, but will most likely try to find a big name player to fit into their system.

Having Arnautovic stay at the London Stadium for the duration of the season will undoubtedly boost Manuel Pellegrini’s men as they try to get some sort of form going.

Despite suffering a hip injury in Saturday’s 4-0 defeat to Manchester City, Arnautovic will have an important role to play if the east London club wish to avoid falling into a relegation battle.

Following a major spending spree in the summer market, West Ham have failed to hit a consistent run of form and find themselves in 14th position, only four points above the relegation places.
