Real Betis striker Loren Moron has revealed why he turned down a potential summer switch to West Ham, speaking to Estadio Deportivo.
What’s the word?
West Ham have struggled to find their feet in the Premier League this season despite splashing over £100m on new recruits in the summer and Manuel Pellegrini was even keen on securing more additions for his squad.
One of the players linked with a summer switch to East London was Real Betis striker Loren Moron, who scored seven goals in 15 games for the LaLiga side last season after breaking into the first-team from Betis’ B side.
That led to plenty of interest in the summer, including that of West Ham, but Moron has told Estadio Deportivo he was never likely to leave as he did not want to throw away the opportunity he has earned with his boyhood side.
What was said?
“It is true there were several clubs who contacted me regarding their interest and we had one firm proposal from them. I did not want to throw away the opportunity I have here at Betis after moving through the youth system and playing for the reserve side.
“I let my agents know, I told my parents and friends and told them that my intention was to stay and continue here. Now I am finally reaping what I sowed a long time ago and I am enjoying my time here a lot.”
A West Ham blow?
While missing out on a talented, young striker like Moron is a disappointment for West Ham, fans must respect the player’s stance and his honesty about why he rejected a potential switch to move to the Premier League.

With the Hammers being a side that prides themselves in their youth development, Moron’s maturity and desire to stay loyal to the club who has given him his chance is admirable and it is also understanding why he did not leave a side who have Europa League football this season.
Moron has now scored two goals in eight matches for Betis across all competitions this season, which is hardly a record that will leave West Ham with sleepless nights wondering what might have been.
