In his time as manager, Carlo Ancelotti has worked with a whole host of some of the world’s greatest players. Think back to the likes of Andrea Pirlo and Kaka at Milan, or Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Real Madrid and PSG respectively.
And whilst James Rodriguez may not be quite in that same bracket, he has certainly proven he has got bags of ability in his locker. You only have to reminisce over his performances at the 2014 World Cup for Colombia, where his inspirational displays led him to being awarded the Golden Boot winner.
Now, Rodriguez is potentially being lined up for a reunion with Ancelotti at Everton.

According to Spanish publication El Desmarque, Everton, along with Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Wolves, amongst others, are interested in luring Rodriguez away from Madrid. The report claims the Colombian has had enough of his time working under Zinedine Zidane, and that an exit could now be on the cards.
Simply put, Everton must fight tooth and nail to get a potential deal for Rodriguez over the line. This is a player who Ancelotti has waxed lyrical about when the pair have worked together at both Madrid and Bayern Munich. Speaking at the announcement of the midfielder’s arrival at the Bundesliga giants, the current Toffees boss lauded what a great player he is.
“It’s a special moment for me – we enjoyed great experiences together. Everyone knows his qualities and he will improve us. He is a great attacking midfielder, a special player and will find a good position in our team – he can play in every attacking position.”
The stage is now perfectly set up for Everton to reunite Rodriguez with his former boss, and that could well hold the key to reigniting his performances too. In his time working under Ancelotti, the £36m-rated star has scored 18 goals and provided a further 19 assists in just 51 games.
The attacking midfielder just has a touch of genius to him – who can ever forget that stunning control and volley in the World Cup against Uruguay? That piece of magic would no doubt go down very well at Goodison Park, and it’s one of the reasons why Everton must surely swoop for one of Ancelotti’s former players.
Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti’s touch of magic may just back-fire now.
