Everton should have tried to sign Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who according to The Sun, is wanted by Monaco on a season-long loan.
What’s the word?
The 22-year-old impressed at the World Cup for England, but since returning to Stamford Bridge, Loftus-Cheek’s progress has been halted.
The midfielder was not even included in the squad that earned a 3-2 victory over Arsenal last weekend.
The Sun reports that Ligue 1 outfit Monaco are keen to sign Loftus-Cheek on loan, but he should have been looked at by Everton prior to the end of the transfer window.
The Chelsea man spent last season on a temporary deal at Crystal Palace, where he made 25 appearances, scoring two goals and creating five assists.
Did Everton need Loftus-Cheek?
The Toffees are not exactly screaming out for midfielders as they already had Idrissa Gueye and Morgan Schneiderlin before the transfer window opened.
Andre Gomes was recruited from Barcelona before the deadline closed, but he has only just begun training after recovering from an injury.
There are still question marks over the 25-year-old due to his failings at the Camp Nou, but Loftus-Cheek is already well-versed in the Premier League.
His inability to grab a regular place in the Chelsea team means that he would be determined to prove himself at the top level.
Everton may have missed out, but they should keep an eye on Loftus-Cheek’s situation, particularly if he is still in West London in January.
